Onpassive Metro Station Is Now Called Garmin: What Changed?

Saw a new name on the signs? You are at the right station!

RTA gave the naming rights of Onpassive Metro Station to Garmin, the GPS and smartwatch brand, on 7 September 2026. The deal runs for 10 years, as the Dubai Media Office announcement on the Garmin naming rights confirms. RTA is updating signs, apps and train announcements in stages from September to November 2026.

This is the station’s fourth name since it opened:

Years Station name
2010 to 2020 Noor Islamic Bank / Noor Bank
2020 to 2023 Al Safa
2023 to 2026 Onpassive (ONPASSIVE)
2026 onwards Garmin

RTA’s own metro map already lists the stop as R29 Garmin. Many maps, taxi drivers and older apps still say Onpassive or even Al Safa. All of these names point to the same stop, R29.

Tips for Using Onpassive Metro Station

A few small habits make every trip easier from this stop:

  • Look for both names. Until all signs change, you may see Onpassive on one board and Garmin on another. Listen for “R29” or check the station code.
  • Pick the right side. Exit to the Landside for Al Quoz buses, including bus 110. The other side faces Al Safa.
  • Avoid the rush. Trains between 7 AM and 9 AM are packed with office workers heading to Business Bay and Downtown.
  • Carry water in summer. Walks in Al Quoz have little shade, and temperatures can pass 40°C.
  • Follow the rules. Eating, drinking and sleeping on trains or platforms can lead to fines, so finish your snack before the gates.
  • Use Gold Class for comfort. It costs double, but it is quieter at rush hour.

Alternate Options

Onpassive Metro Station is not always the closest stop for every trip. Try these instead:

  • Business Bay Metro Station: One stop east. Better for Business Bay towers and Al Wasl. Read our guide on Business Bay Metro Station Exit 1 and Exit 2 to pick the right side.
  • Equiti Metro Station: One stop west. Closer to parts of Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 and 4.
  • Mall of the Emirates Metro Station: Better for Al Barsha and the mall itself.
  • Taxi or ride apps: The fastest choice for Kite Beach, Umm Suqeim or late nights.
